The Owerri Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) celebrated a memorable Annual Law Week as it welcomed distinguished legal practitioner, Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya FCIArb, who was met with an enthusiastic ovation.
Recognized as a prominent voice in the legal and policy landscape, Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya participated as a panel discussant in a high-profile session titled “The Role of the Judiciary in Promoting Economic Growth in Nigeria.”
The session attracted esteemed legal professionals, judges, academics, and aspiring lawyers, and was invigorated by Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya’s culturally sensitive approach.
To the audience’s delight, she began her address with a greeting in fluent Igbo, eliciting loud cheers and applause, which fostered a deep connection with her hosts in Imo State.

In her remarks, Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya underscored the judiciary’s crucial role in creating an enabling environment for economic development.
She articulated that investor confidence hinges on a legal system that is predictable, efficient, and consistent.
She urged the judiciary to proactively embrace its constitutional mandate as the protector and stabilizer of the rule of law.
Drawing inspiration from the legacy of the late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, a revered figure from Imo State and a former Supreme Court Justice, she called for a revival of the depth, courage, and intellectual rigor that characterized his judicial tenure.
“Justice Oputa stood for truth and justice, even when it was inconvenient,” she remarked, emphasizing that “his legacy is a reminder that a bold judiciary is not a luxury — it is a necessity for sustainable economic growth.”

Her compelling insights left a lasting impression, setting a powerful tone for the remainder of Law Week and reinforcing the importance of judicial integrity and assertiveness in fostering national development.
