The Nigeria Police Force has come under criticism for imposing stiff administrative bail conditions on David Nwokorie, who was arrested following a breakup with Genevieve Opara, daughter of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hilary Opara.
Nwokorie, accused of cyberstalking and blackmail by Genevieve—who is currently married to FRSC official Seal Nwaka—was reportedly detained after the complaint was filed. Genevieve is also a Deputy Manager at the National Pension Commission.
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore intervened in the matter, stating that police initially agreed to release Nwokorie on bail through his lawyer. However, upon the lawyer’s arrival, they were met with what Sowore described as “ludicrous” conditions.
A bail document obtained by SaharaReporters revealed that the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) required two sureties: either senior federal government officials not below Grade Level 17 or businessmen with property in Abuja valued at ₦500 million and backed by a Certificate of Occupancy. Alternatively, the sureties could be company owners with registered businesses and equivalent property holdings in the Federal Capital Territory.

If federal employees are provided as sureties, they must present letters of introduction from their workplaces, valid IDs, and other supporting documents.
