20-Year-Old Man Arrested for Stabbing Emir Sanusi’s Guard to Death During Eid Prayers

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly stabbing to death a security guard assigned to protect the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, during Eid prayers on Sunday.

According to a police statement, the suspect attacked the guard while he was on duty at the Eid ground, where Emir Sanusi II had gone to observe prayers. Another security officer sustained injuries during the attack and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Hospital in Kano.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest, adding that a palace official, ‘Shamakin Kano’ Wada Isyaku, had been invited for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

“The police have commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident, and we have invited the Kano Emirate’s Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning,” Kiyawa stated.

Appeal Court Halts Reinstatement of Sanusi as Emir of Kano

The attack occurred amid heightened tensions in Kano over the ongoing tussle for the Emirate’s throne between Emir Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero. Authorities had earlier banned the traditional Sallah procession in an effort to maintain peace in the state.

Security forces remain on high alert as investigations continue.
