NBA Gwagwalada Mourns the Passing of Hamisu Umar, Esq.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Gwagwalada Branch (Eagle Bar) regrets to announce the passing of our esteemed member, Hamisu Umar, Esq., who was the immediate past Chairman of the Young Lawyers Forum (YLF) of our branch. He passed away this afternoon in Kano, his hometown, after a protracted illness.

The sad news was first shared by a former Chairman of the branch, I. A. Aliyu, Esq., on the branch platform and later confirmed by the deceased’s elder brother, Mallam Salawudeen Umar. Late Hamisu Umar, Esq. breathed his last at Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Kano, and was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites at Ahmadiyya Junction Cemetery, located at Airport Road, Conner Jabba, Brigade Area, Kano. A brief prayer for the repose of his soul was held at his family residence at PRP Court, Kano City.

A Life of Service and Dedication

His sudden demise has left members of the Eagle Bar in deep mourning. Hamisu Umar was a vibrant and committed Bar leader who served meritoriously as the YLF Chairman (2022–2024). Even in 2024, when his illness became apparent, he defied all odds to lead the YLF to organize its first-ever world-class YLF Summit in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

Beyond his tenure as YLF Chairman, he contributed immensely to the branch, serving as Secretary of the Continuing Legal Education Committee and as a dedicated member of several committees, including the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE). His impact will outlive him, as he was known for his humility, dedication, and unwavering commitment to humanity.

A Battle Bravely Fought

Hamisu Umar was diagnosed with a cancer-related illness, and despite his reassurances that he was improving, the will of Almighty Allah prevailed. In July 2024, the branch rallied around him, raising over one million naira in a fundraising campaign to support his medical treatment.

He is survived by his mother, wife, and child.

A Profound Loss to the Bar

The NBA Gwagwalada Branch deeply mourns the passing of a young yet remarkable Bar man, whose unwavering commitment to humanity and service defined his life. A devout Muslim, he exemplified compassion and dedication until his final moments. We pray that Almighty Allah grants him Aljannah Firdaus and bestows strength upon his family and the entire branch to bear this profound loss. Ameen.
