The Chief Judge of Kwara State, Justice Adelodun Adebara, has granted freedom to three inmates during his inspection of Custodial Centres in Ilorin and Mandala. The release followed a thorough review of the inmates’ case files as part of a routine inspection.
Justice Adebara highlighted the issue of overcrowding in the state’s Custodial Centres and emphasized that the jail delivery exercise falls within his constitutional powers. This process allows the Chief Judge to review cases that have been pending in court for an extended period, especially those involving inmates with terminal illnesses or minor offences that could be resolved through community service.
During the exercise, Justice Adebara reaffirmed his commitment to conducting regular jail delivery visits to alleviate the strain on the correctional facilities. He urged the released inmates to steer clear of criminal activities and reintegrate into society as law-abiding citizens.
The Chief Judge also thanked the Correctional Service authorities for their support in ensuring a smooth and humane release process. In his remarks, the state Controller of the Correctional Centre, Danmairomu Ayodeji, praised Justice Adebara and his team for their visit and advised the released inmates to maintain good behaviour and avoid returning to criminal activities.
