The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, on Tuesday led a delegation of NBA National Officers and Bar Leaders on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, ahead of the NBA National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting scheduled to hold in Akure, Ondo State, on 6th February 2025.

During the visit, the NBA President expressed appreciation to the Governor for his administration’s commitment to the legal profession and for accepting to host the NEC Meeting.
He acknowledged the Governor’s support for the Bar and the Bench, which has significantly contributed to the harmonious relationship between the legal profession and the judiciary in Ondo State.

Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, emphasised the importance of a strong and independent judiciary, noting that the effective collaboration between the Bar and the Bench in Ondo State serves as a model for other states.
He further stated that the upcoming NEC Meeting will provide an opportunity for Bar leaders across the country to deliberate on key issues affecting the legal profession and the rule of law in Nigeria.

In his response, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the NBA and pledged full support for the successful hosting of the NEC Meeting. He expressed his government’s commitment to promoting justice, upholding the rule of law, and creating an enabling environment for legal practitioners in the state.
The NBA National Executive Council Meeting, which is the highest decision-making body of the Association outside the Annual General Meeting, will bring together NBA National Officers, past NBA Presidents, branch chairmen, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues affecting the legal profession and the nation at large.
As preparations for the NEC meeting reach their final stages, the NBA President expressed optimism that the discussions and resolutions from the gathering will significantly impact the legal profession and governance in Nigeria.
