Over 20 Bandits Attack Kubwa Community in Abuja, Kidnap Five, Including Three Family Members

No fewer than 20 armed bandits attacked the Chikakore community in Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, late Sunday night, abducting five residents, including three members of a family.

The attackers invaded the Health Centre extension axis of Chikakore around 11 pm, forcing their way into homes and targeting residents, including Adesiyan Akinropo, a Southwesterner, his wife, son, and a visitor. Another neighbor was also kidnapped, making five victims in total.

According to police sources, a woman sustained a severe head injury after being struck with the butt of a gun. She bled profusely and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police operatives from the Byzahin division reportedly arrived 90 minutes after the incident, but the assailants had already escaped.

Residents Call for Police Division

Community residents lamented the lack of adequate security infrastructure, emphasizing the urgent need for a police division within Chikakore.

“The bandits have resumed attacks in Chikakore. We need a police division here in this community. We have land and a five-bedroom apartment already built to accommodate the police, but there is no deployment yet,” one resident said.

History of Attacks

This latest attack adds to the growing insecurity in the area. Earlier in January, bandits fleeing from Kankara Local Government Area in Katsina State detonated explosives in Kuchibuyi, located just five kilometers from Chikakore. That explosion at an Islamic school claimed two lives.

Efforts to reach FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh for comments were unsuccessful as calls to her phone went unanswered.
