The NBA National Litigation Committee, led by its 2nd Alternate Chairman, Mr. Vincent Otaokpukpu, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN. The visit focused on fostering collaboration to protect the rights of lawyers in carrying out their lawful and constitutional duties.

During the meeting, Mr. Otaokpukpu emphasized the Committee’s resolve to partner with the ICPC in ensuring that lawyers are shielded from undue harassment while discharging their professional obligations. He also proposed the creation of a structured avenue through which the Commission could report lawyers who act improperly toward its staff or officers.

In response, Dr. Aliyu reaffirmed the ICPC’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of lawyers and suspects. He highlighted his background as a lawyer and noted that many senior staff members within the Commission are also members of the Bar, making it imperative to ensure a harmonious working relationship.

Dr. Aliyu also expressed interest in strengthening the partnership between the NBA and the ICPC, particularly in the fight against corruption. He pledged his availability to engage with NBA members on fostering collaboration for national development.

The visit was attended by the Secretary of the Litigation Committee, Isah Abubakar Aliyu, alongside members Mr. B. O. Nafagha, Christian Magani Wanche, and Israel Elijah.

This meeting underscores the NBA’s proactive efforts to advocate for its members and promote a professional and cooperative relationship with key government institutions.
