The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has allegedly summoned Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, following controversial comments he made regarding Betsy Obaseki, the wife of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
In a recent interview with select journalists, Oshiomhole claimed that Governor Obaseki and his wife have no love for children, a statement he made in response to Betsy Obaseki’s alleged remarks about the marital status of the APC governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo. Oshiomhole further commented on the couple’s childlessness, insinuating that their lack of children and refusal to adopt reflect their disinterest in children.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Condemns Oshiomhole’s Comments on Edo First Lady’s Childlessness
These remarks have sparked widespread condemnation across Nigeria, especially as the Edo State governorship election approaches.
Sources within Aso Rock revealed that First Lady Tinubu was deeply embarrassed and angered by Oshiomhole’s comments. One source noted, “Senator Oluremi Tinubu was visibly enraged when she learned about Oshiomhole’s comments concerning Mrs. Obaseki. She could not believe that a seasoned politician like Oshiomhole would stoop so low as to make such insensitive remarks about a woman’s personal life. It’s an affront to decency and to the values we should uphold in our political discourse.”
Known for her strong advocacy on issues affecting women and ethical conduct in politics, the First Lady reportedly felt compelled to address the matter directly. Another Aso Rock official commented, “This isn’t just about Mrs. Obaseki; it’s about the implications of dragging personal issues into the political sphere. Senator Tinubu has always believed in politics driven by ideas and development rather than personal attacks and character assassination.”
The First Lady’s intervention underscores her commitment to maintaining a respectful and issue-based political environment in Nigeria.
