Key Judicial Divisions to Remain Operational During Vacation

During the vacation period, the Federal High Court will keep its three main divisions—in Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt—open to the public. These divisions will have specific Judges on duty to handle particular cases, ensuring that the court can address urgent and essential matters even while regular court sessions are on hold.

According to the circular, the vacation Judges will be available to preside over cases that involve:

  • The enforcement of fundamental rights,
  • The arrest or release of vessels, and
  • Issues deemed to be of significant national interest.

Designated Vacation Judges

In each primary division, select Judges have been appointed to handle cases during the holiday period:

  • Abuja Division: Justices Emeka Nwite and M. S. Liman will preside over vacation cases.
  • Lagos Division: Justices Akintayo Aluko and Isaac Dipeolu will be on duty.
  • Port Harcourt Division: Justices P. M. Ayua and A. T. Mohammed will manage cases during the vacation.

These Judges will ensure that the court remains functional for critical matters requiring immediate attention, while other Judges observe the holiday.

Chief Judge’s Holiday Message

In his circular, Hon. Justice John Terhemba Tsoho extended his warm wishes to his colleagues, hoping they enjoy a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year. His message underscores the court’s commitment to both the well-being of its Judges and the consistent delivery of justice, even through holiday periods.
