Fear in Abuja community as bandits drop letter of planned attack

There was apprehension in Shere community in Bwari Area Council of the FCT, following a purported letter dropped by bandits threatening to carry out an attack on the community.

Some residents, who spoke with the City & Crime under condition of anonymity, said the letter was brought by three people who came with motorcycle around 8 pm on Wednesday.

“They stopped around a resettlement site under construction on the outskirts of the community, and gave the letter to a boy of about 10 years old, asking him to deliver the letter to the people that usually gathered around a local tea joint there,” one of the sources said.

It was gathered about 20 prominent individuals in the community were specifically listed in the letter for an attack.

A police source in the FCT, however, described the letter as merely handiwork of hooligans within the area, which according to him, are aiming to cause fear among the residents.

He said, “We are suspecting some people that are not happy with the kind of curfew that was introduced in the area as well as our deployment of personnel to the community.

‘’This is the third time that such letter was sent to the area in the recent times, which turned out to be untrue.

‘’But all the same, we would not relent on our efforts at providing security in the whole axis.’’

Efforts to speak with the FCT police command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, were not successful up till the time of filing this report.
