Taiwo Obasanjo Evicted from Asokoro Residence Over Unpaid Rent

Taiwo Obasanjo, the estranged wife of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, was reportedly evicted from her Abuja residence on Friday, October 18, 2024, due to accumulated unpaid rent.

The property, located at 30 Jessie Jackson Street in Asokoro, had been under a ‘Pay or Vacate’ notice issued by the landlord. After failing to settle the rent arrears within the 30-day period, Taiwo’s eviction was enforced, resulting in her belongings being removed from the premises.

A source told SaharaReporters, “Taiwo was evicted by her landlord last Friday over unpaid rent on her apartment, which had been due for years. She was publicly disgraced, and her properties remain outside the building.”

This eviction follows a tumultuous history between Taiwo and her former husband, Olusegun Obasanjo. In 2023, she publicly criticized him, calling him a “wicked husband” after he rebuffed her plea for forgiveness on his behalf. The plea came after Obasanjo’s controversial remarks directed at traditional rulers in Iseyin, Oyo State, for failing to stand during an official event.

Obasanjo responded to her intervention by questioning her mental health, denying any ongoing connection between them, and stating that she was neither his wife nor part of his family, despite their two children. Taiwo responded with a scathing statement, claiming that Obasanjo had, in the past, repeatedly sought her reconciliation and expressing pain over his denial.

She further accused him of mistreating his previous wives, highlighting a past incident where he allegedly assaulted his first wife over an insult directed at her. Taiwo questioned the legitimacy of his current marriage, asking Obasanjo to provide evidence of formal marriage ceremonies and criticizing his treatment of past relationships.

The eviction incident and the public feud have only deepened the rift between Taiwo and the former president, continuing to unfold in a highly publicized and personal battle.
