A Nigerian woman, Olubunmi Okeniyi, has tragically passed away just a month after moving to the United Kingdom with her husband and two children. According to the founder of Nigerians in the UK Community, Oluomo of Derby, Olubunmi arrived in Sunderland on September 16, 2024, and died on October 13, 2024.
The community expressed their condolences towards the woman’s death and announced the launch of a GoFundMe campaign to help cover her burial expenses. A statement shared by the community read: “With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Olubunmi Okeniyi, who tragically passed away on 13/10/24, at 4:30 pm in Sunderland, UK. Mrs Olubunmi, who arrived from Nigeria with her two sons on 16/09/24, is survived by her husband, Mr Jacob Okeniyi. We are urgently seeking donations to assist with her immediate burial, as her husband cannot afford the costs.”
In related news, freedom fighter Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has submitted a petition to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer advocating for the creation of a Yoruba nation. The petition, made on behalf of Professor Adebanji Akintoye, leader of the Yoruba Nation movement, seeks the UK government’s intervention in their quest for a country predominantly owned by indigenous Yoruba people. This development was shared by Igboho’s spokesman, Koiki, on social media, stating that the petition was delivered to 10 Downing Street.
