The Kwara State Police Command has announced the dismissal of three officers in connection with the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a 21-year-old ND II student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin. The dismissal follows investigations into the incident, which occurred on September 4, 2024, during a stop-and-search operation in the Fate area of Ilorin.
In a statement issued on Monday night by DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, the Command revealed that the officers—INSPR. Abiodun Kayode, INSPR. James Emmanuel, and SGT.
Oni Philip—were found guilty of leaving their duty post, engaging in corrupt practices, and the unlawful or unnecessary use of authority. The disciplinary trial resulted in their dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force, effective October 4, 2024, with a promise of their prosecution in court.
The Command emphasized its commitment to accountability and professionalism under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, noting that breaches of ethical standards, particularly those leading to loss of life, would be met with strict actions.
In extending condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Ishola, the police encouraged the public to maintain trust in the legal process, assuring that justice has been served.
