Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has declared his intention to contest again in 2027 with a bold mission — to unseat President Bola Tinubu and ensure he becomes the last of Nigeria’s “bad presidents.” Adebayo made this declaration while criticizing the status quo of Nigerian politics and pledging a revolutionary shift in the political landscape.
According to Adebayo, the persistent complaints by Nigerians about bad leadership must now give way to deliberate action. He emphasized that while citizens often lament their leaders, they have failed to fundamentally change the system that produces them. His goal, he said, is not just to win an election but to redefine politics in Nigeria.
“We can’t keep blaming leaders without changing how we choose them,” Adebayo stated. “My mission is to make Tinubu the last bad president Nigeria will ever have. But we won’t achieve that by merely replacing him; we must replace the system that enables mediocrity and corruption in leadership.”
Adebayo pointed to the need to eliminate money politics and restore ethics and integrity in the political process. He said politics in Nigeria must become something that decent, capable citizens are proud to be part of — not a playground for the highest bidder.

“When politics is done properly, ethically, and legitimately, it will attract real talent,” he said. “We must raise the bar. When the people demand better, politicians will be forced to rise to the challenge or step aside.”
He underscored that genuine political transformation will require Nigerians to actively participate in the democratic process and to reject transactional politics. Adebayo stressed that it is not divine intervention but the conscious action of the people through their votes that will usher in better leadership.
The SDP, according to Adebayo, is being repositioned as the vehicle for this change. He lauded the efforts of the party’s national leadership, including National Chairman Shehu Gabam and National Secretary Olu Ogunloye, for promoting a people-focused agenda.
“Our party is open to all who are ready to build a better Nigeria,” Adebayo said. “But we are clear in our mission — we are for the people, not for political expediency. Look at our manifesto, study chapter two of the constitution. Our politics is about addressing the real needs of the masses.”
Adebayo called on Nigerians to adopt the SDP as a genuine platform to reform the political culture and elect leaders who serve rather than exploit. He reiterated his resolve not to be part of the corrupt political system he seeks to dismantle.

“By God’s grace, we will not let Nigerians down. We are not here to repeat the mistakes of the past. We are here to change the game entirely,” he concluded.
