Police in Uganda have arrested a 16-year-old boy following the death of his uncle during an argument over trees growing along a land boundary.
The incident occurred in Lira City on Wednesday, October 14. The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Moses Nam.
According to Nile Post, North Kyoga regional police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema said preliminary investigations indicated that the disagreement escalated into a physical fight.
Police allege that the teenager attacked his uncle with a machete. A village chairperson reported the incident, after which investigators visited and documented the scene.
Officers recovered an implement believed to have been used in the attack and retained it as an exhibit. Nam’s body was taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Okema appealed for disputes to be resolved through dialogue and mediation.
Police said investigations were continuing. The teenager remains a suspect, and the report does not establish a conviction. His name is withheld because he is a child.
