Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, have reportedly killed more than 21 suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters during an operation in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to The Guardian Nigeria, the operation targeted a terrorist camp in the Kopre Mountain area and resulted in the destruction of logistics facilities and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
The operation was conducted by personnel of the Office of the National Security Adviser Tactical Team and newly deployed troops of the 226 Battalion under Sector 4.
Troops Enter Mountainous Enclave
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the troops acted on intelligence concerning the presence of suspected terrorists in the difficult mountainous terrain.
The joint force reportedly entered the enclave discreetly before launching an assault in the early hours of Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The reference in the original copy to Wednesday, August 27, was inaccurate, as the operation took place on Thursday.
Terrorists Engaged in Two Encounters
Goni said the troops confronted the suspected terrorists in two separate engagements.
More than 21 fighters were reportedly killed, while several others escaped into the surrounding terrain with suspected gunshot wounds.
The casualty figure was provided by the military and had not been independently verified at the time of publication.
The military did not disclose whether any soldier was killed or injured during the operation.
Camp and Logistics Destroyed
After taking control of the area, the troops reportedly dismantled the camp and destroyed facilities believed to have supported the group’s operations.
Items destroyed included motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit, which the military said were used for transportation and logistics.
The troops also recovered several AK-47 rifles, magazines and a substantial quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Operation Linked to Search for Abductees
The offensive formed part of continuing operations to locate people allegedly abducted from Mussa community in May 2026 and schoolchildren taken from the Lassa area in June.
Operation Hadin Kai said search-and-rescue efforts would continue alongside operations targeting terrorist camps, fighters and supply networks across the North-East.
The Military High Command commended the personnel involved for their coordination, resilience and ability to operate within the restrictive mountain terrain.
