President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, as the revered traditional ruler celebrates his 85th birthday today, April 22.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu paid glowing tribute to the Emir’s life of service and leadership.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu felicitates the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, on his 85th birthday on April 22. Alhaji Sulu-Gambari is a former Justice of the Court of Appeal and the pioneer Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice in the old Gongola State. Called to the Bar in 1968, he became a High Court judge in Borno State in 1977 and was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 1983,” the statement read.
The President commended the Emir’s enduring contributions to Nigeria’s judiciary and his decades-long service as a traditional leader, describing his legacy as one marked by wisdom, unity, and dedication to national development.

In his tribute, President Tinubu stated:
“The President commends His Royal Highness, the Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers, for his unwavering commitment to nation-building, demonstrated by his consistent advocacy for unity, peace, and progress.”
Highlighting the Emir’s role in advancing education in the country, President Tinubu also acknowledged his leadership in the academic sector.
“He thanks the Emir for his service to Nigeria as the Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, at different times,” the statement added.
President Tinubu also extended his heartfelt wishes to the Emir’s family, the Ilorin Emirate, and the wider Kwara State community, as they honor the Emir’s remarkable life and legacy.
“He prays that God Almighty will grant the Emir renewed strength and good health to enjoy many more peaceful and impactful years on the throne,” the President concluded.
