Empowering Female Lawyers: 

The Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF) FCT Chapter, led by the National Chairperson, Huwaila Muhammad, and State Lead, Hadiza Afegbua, recently paid an advocacy visit to the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja.

During the visit, the delegation had the privilege of engaging with the Administrator of NJI, Hon. Justice Salisu Garba (Rtd.), in a meaningful discussion centered on gender equality, empowerment, and the role of female lawyers in the justice sector.

Hon. Justice Garba warmly welcomed the NBAWF delegation, expressing his delight at their visit and commending the forum’s dedication to advancing gender inclusivity in the legal profession.

The discussions emphasized the importance of female representation in key decision-making roles within the judiciary, the need for capacity-building programs tailored for women in law, and the enhancement of access to justice for marginalized groups.

Commitment to Gender Empowerment and Collaboration

Inspired by the NBAWF’s mission, Hon. Justice Garba pledged his support in various areas discussed, highlighting the NJI’s commitment to fostering a legal environment where female lawyers can thrive, lead, and contribute meaningfully to the justice sector.

He encouraged female practitioners to harness their full potential and assured the delegation of his readiness to explore collaborative opportunities to strengthen capacity-building initiatives.

A significant outcome of the visit was the enthusiastic response from female staff members of the NJI, who expressed their admiration for NBAWF’s advocacy efforts.

Led by the Head of Collaboration with External Organizations, Hajiya Jariyat Ibrahim, several female NJI staff members immediately joined the NBAWF FCT Chapter and paid their annual dues, officially becoming members in good standing.
