Members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Owerri Branch, have appointed a fresh committee to examine the receipt, management and disbursement of the ₦100 million donated to the Branch by the Imo State Government.
According to TheNigeriaLawyer’s October 16 report, the decision followed the extraordinary general meeting held on October 15. Branch Chairman, Dr. Mazi Udegbulem, stepped aside from presiding after members objected to his chairing proceedings concerning allegations involving him.
The meeting dissolved the committee he had previously constituted and appointed a five-member panel chaired by Chidi Nworka.
The new panel is expected to report at the Branch’s October 31 general meeting. It will operate independently of the national committee established by NBA President Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN.
The question of the Chairman’s removal was deferred. The inquiry remains an examination of allegations; the reported resolutions do not establish that funds were misappropriated. TheNigeriaLawyer
