The Nigerian Navy has recorded another significant operational breakthrough in its campaign against crude oil theft and illegal refining, uncovering three suspected illegal refining sites, six reservoirs and approximately 99,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil.
The discoveries were made across operational areas in Rivers and Delta States.
According to a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operations were conducted by Nigerian Navy Ship SOROH and NNS DELTA on August 31, 2026, following credible intelligence on suspected illegal petroleum activities.
The operations also led to the discovery of infrastructure allegedly being used for illegal refining, including a large refining oven, storage facilities and dugout reservoirs containing suspected stolen crude oil.
The Navy described the combined discoveries as a substantial disruption to illicit petroleum operations, particularly the storage and processing infrastructure required to sustain the illegal trade.
Folorunsho said the identified sites, facilities and recovered petroleum products were handled in accordance with established procedures.
The Navy said the latest operations demonstrate its capacity to maintain sustained pressure across several operational areas while denying criminal networks access to infrastructure required to continue crude oil theft and illegal refining activities.
The operation forms part of continuing efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s critical oil and gas infrastructure and reduce the economic losses associated with petroleum theft.
