A man identified as Andrawus James has been remanded in a correctional facility in Adamawa State over allegations that he abducted his 18-year-old niece as part of a plan to sell her for ₦7 million.
James, a resident of Bai village in Yadim District, Fufure Local Government Area, allegedly lured his niece, identified simply as Fatima, with a promise that he had secured employment for her in Abuja.
According to an earlier police account reported by P.M. News, James allegedly instructed the teenager not to tell her parents about the proposed trip.
The alleged plot was uncovered after James reportedly approached Mohamed Buba in Ganye and disclosed his intention to make money by selling his niece.
A proposed price of ₦7 million was reportedly agreed upon. Unknown to James, however, Buba had alerted security operatives about the alleged plan.
Buba subsequently made a formal report at the Ganye Divisional Police Headquarters on August 16, after which security personnel moved to intercept the alleged transaction.
James was arrested when he later arrived in Ganye with Fatima, while the teenager was rescued before the alleged transaction could be completed.
Subsequent court reports indicate that James was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola, where the allegations contained in the First Information Report were read to him.
News Platform reported that the court ordered his remand in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The matter remains subject to further judicial proceedings.
