The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Gwagwalada Branch, also known as the Eagle Bar, has congratulated Dr. Nasiru Muktar on his appointment as the Director of the International Centre, University of Abuja.
In a congratulatory message signed by the Branch Chairman, Mr. Clever N. Oworh, the NBA Gwagwalada expressed pride in Dr. Muktar’s visionary leadership, legal scholarship, and commitment to mentoring.

And as a champion of international collaborations, it is our firm belief that your appointment will bring more growth and development to the University Community and the NBA Gwagwalada Branch,” the statement read.
Meet Dr. Nasiru Muktar
Dr. Nasiru Muktar, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, University of Abuja, hails from Malleri, Kwami LGA of Gombe State. He previously served as a teacher and headmaster under the Gombe State Universal Basic Education before joining the University of Abuja.

He obtained his LL.B. in 2005 and LL.M. in 2011 from the University of Abuja and later earned a PhD from the University of Ilorin in 2021. Dr. Muktar has been actively involved in legal education and clinical legal training. He currently serves as the Director of the Clinical Legal Education (CLE) program at UniAbuja, where he coordinates the activities of the University of Abuja Law Clinic.
A pioneer in Clinical Legal Education in Nigeria, he played a key role in establishing the University of Abuja Law Clinic in 2008 in collaboration with the Network of University Legal Aid Institutions (NULAI-Nigeria), where he also serves as an Executive Board Member.
Under his leadership, the University of Abuja Law Clinic has significantly contributed to prison pretrial projects, particularly in Kuje and Suleja Prisons, supported by the U.S. government through the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in partnership with New-Rule and PartnersGlobal.
Dr. Muktar has also participated in drafting key legal handbooks, including the Child Rights Manual and Street Law Manual, published by NULAI-Nigeria. He has been involved in various legal reforms, including serving as a Legal Clinic Prison Kuje (LCPK) Advisory Committee member for the Reform Kuje Project and the Project Advisory Committee (PAC).
Additionally, he is a member of the EU-UNICEF Justice for Children Forum, the University Research Council (URC), and the Centre for Sponsored Projects (CSP). He has authored over 20 well-researched papers in high-impact journals and has supervised numerous community-based projects, including the Protection of Civic Spaces (CBS-PCS) Project supported by the Heinrich Böll Foundation.

A consultant to the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), Dr. Muktar recently concluded a justice-sector assessment across 12 states in Nigeria. His work in legal education, public interest lawyering, and international collaborations has significantly enhanced the global visibility of the University of Abuja.
With his appointment as Director of the International Centre, University of Abuja, Dr. Muktar is expected to further strengthen international partnerships for the benefit of the university’s staff and students.
