The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed October 16, 2026, for hearing in a suit challenging an interim forfeiture order connected to an alleged ₦2.5 billion fraud investigation.
The matter is before Justice Musa Liman. Leadership
The applicant is asking the court to discharge or vary the interim order, contending that the circumstances surrounding the forfeiture do not justify its continuation.
The EFCC, on the other hand, is expected to defend the order as part of its investigative and asset-recovery powers.
Interim forfeiture orders are frequently used by anti-graft agencies to preserve disputed assets pending investigation or substantive proceedings.
But they also raise recurring questions around property rights, fair hearing, evidential threshold and the distinction between preservation and punishment.
An interim forfeiture does not amount to a final finding that the property represents proceeds of crime.
The October 16 hearing is therefore important because it will determine whether the order remains in place while the underlying dispute continues.
