Fire Erupts at Ilorin High Court Due to Power Surge

A devastating fire broke out at the Ilorin High Court on Saturday, engulfing parts of the building, including courtroom No. 10. The fire, which originated from a standing air conditioner due to a power surge, quickly spread and threatened nearby courtrooms and offices.

The incident was reported in a statement released on Sunday by the Kwara State Fire Service’s Head of Media and Publicity, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, through the Director of the Fire Service, Prince Falade John.

According to the statement, “On Sunday, 29th September 2024, at approximately 08:02 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service responded swiftly to a fire outbreak at the High Court in Ilorin.”

Upon the fire crew’s arrival, flames had already engulfed courtroom No. 10 and were on the verge of spreading to adjacent areas. However, the firefighters acted swiftly, managing to contain the blaze and prevent further damage to the court premises.

Further investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge affecting the air conditioner.

Alh. Rasak Jiddah, Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, was present at the scene and praised the firefighters for their rapid response.

The Chief Justice of Kwara State, Hon. Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara, also commended the Fire Service for saving the court from severe damage.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, urged the public to remain vigilant and take precautions to avoid such incidents.
