Teen Recruited Online Gets 20 Years for Murder Plot

A Norwegian teenager who travelled to Britain to carry out a paid killing has been sentenced to 20 years in detention after investigators intercepted the plot before anyone was harmed.

Johannes Kongsnes Natland, 19, was sentenced on October 16 following his conviction for conspiracy to murder. Police said he must serve at least 13 years in custody.

The case began with online recruitment and developed into an international operation involving travel instructions, concealed firearms and a target whose identity has never been established.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service, Natland arrived at Manchester Airport from Stavanger on March 17, 2025, shortly after turning 18. He had agreed to carry out a killing for payment and received directions to collect weapons hidden in woodland in Huddersfield.

Prosecutors said phone messages, CCTV and witness testimony supported the case against him. He had also admitted firearms and ammunition offences. The Crown Prosecution Service

Metropolitan Police said officers arrested Natland at a hotel in the early hours of March 19. Investigators reconstructed his movements and examined communications directing him where to travel, collect money and obtain the weapons.

During his defence, Natland maintained that he had not intended to complete the killing. The jury rejected his denial of conspiracy.

Police said a contact within the Foxtrot criminal network was directing him. Importantly, investigators stated that although the network has links to Iran, they found no evidence of a direct Iranian connection to this particular plot. Metropolitan Police

Reuters reported that Judge Bobbie Cheema-Grubb regarded Natland’s conduct as purposeful and persistent. His Norwegian lawyer said efforts would be made to secure his transfer to Norway.

The sentencing resolves Natland’s prosecution, but police said investigations into people suspected of helping obtain firearms and a stolen vehicle remained ongoing. Reuters
