Thirty years after the fatal shooting of American rapper Tupac Shakur, the only person ever charged in connection with his murder is due to be sentenced in Las Vegas, bringing one of the world’s most closely followed celebrity murder cases to another decisive stage.
According to the Associated Press, Davis, 63, was convicted in August 2026 and is scheduled for sentencing on Tuesday, 13 October.
The Night Tupac Was Shot
On 7 September 1996, Tupac Shakur was travelling in a black BMW driven by music executive Marion Suge Knight in Las Vegas.
As their vehicle stopped at a traffic light, a white Cadillac pulled alongside it.
Gunfire erupted, striking Shakur multiple times.
Knight survived the shooting, but Shakur died six days later at the age of 25.
The killing became one of the most widely discussed unsolved crimes in American entertainment history.
Three Decades of Questions
For years, investigators faced difficulties establishing criminal responsibility for the shooting.
The case remained unresolved despite extensive public attention, competing theories and continued interest from Shakur’s supporters.
Davis eventually became the only person criminally charged in connection with the killing.
Prosecutors relied significantly on statements Davis had made publicly about his involvement in the events surrounding the shooting.
A jury convicted him in August 2026.
His music addressed social inequality, violence, poverty and the experiences of marginalised communities.
His death at 25 interrupted a career that had already achieved international recognition.
For fans and relatives, the sentencing represents a major moment in the long-running pursuit of accountability.
Kindly note:
As of this morning, sentencing is scheduled for today.
