The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the temporary release of former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Uche Nnaji’s international passport to enable him to travel abroad for medical treatment.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the application after it was moved by Nnaji’s legal team.
Nnaji is standing trial on a six-count charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission involving alleged certificate forgery, false information and corruption.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned in July.
Among the allegations, the ICPC claims that Nnaji submitted purported University of Nigeria, Nsukka and National Youth Service Corps documents which the prosecution says were false. The allegations have not been determined by the court.
His passport had earlier been deposited with the court as part of his bail conditions.
The court fixed October 26 for continuation of trial, with reports indicating that the travel document is to be returned in accordance with the court’s direction.
