Child abuse: The Abia State Police Command has arraigned Uzoma Uwaeme over allegations that he severely abused his 13-year-old son in Aba.
The case drew attention after a video reportedly showed the teenager tied with ropes, injured and exposed outdoors. Police subsequently arrested the father and transferred the investigation to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Following the investigation, the suspect was arraigned before a court and remanded in correctional custody. The child has meanwhile been transferred to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for care, rehabilitation and continued protection.
Police said the prosecution forms part of efforts to hold alleged perpetrators of child abuse accountable while ensuring protection for victims.
As the matter is now before a court, the allegations against the defendant remain subject to proof through the judicial process.
