Kidnapped Ondo APC chieftain Olumide Odimayo was found dead near Ogolo River in Ese Odo after vigilantes launched a search following his abduction from Igbotu community.
Olumide Odimayo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State who was abducted from his residence in Igbotu community, was found dead following a search by local vigilantes.
Odimayo, popularly known as “Londoner,” had been abducted after armed men reportedly invaded the community, fired gunshots into the air and whisked him away.
His body was subsequently discovered near Ogolo River, between Sabomi and Igbotu communities in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Members of a local vigilante group involved in the search reportedly discovered the body, throwing residents of the community into mourning.
Two persons suspected at the time of having links with the abduction were also reportedly apprehended by the vigilante group.
Some youths in the community criticised the response of security agencies, particularly the marine police, arguing that stronger cooperation between security personnel and the local search team might have improved efforts to rescue Odimayo alive.
One community source said Odimayo had returned from London not long before his abduction and was unfamiliar with the difficult riverine terrain.
Reacting to the death at the time, the Ondo State chapter of the APC expressed shock and described Odimayo’s death as a painful loss to the party.
