As the race for the office of NBA National Welfare Secretary gathers momentum, Audrey Chinelo Ofoegbunam has unveiled a sneak peek of her manifesto, offering members of the Nigerian Bar Association an insight into the welfare-focused agenda she hopes to implement if elected.

Anchored on the belief that the welfare of every lawyer must remain at the heart of the Association, Ofoegbunam described members’ welfare as “music to my soul,” emphasizing that it is not merely a campaign promise but the very reason she is seeking the office.

The manifesto preview is built around four core pillars designed to strengthen welfare delivery across the Association.

The first is Accessible Welfare Support, which proposes a responsive and compassionate welfare desk capable of providing timely assistance to members facing health challenges, financial hardship, or other emergencies.

The second pillar, Member Empowerment, focuses on creating programmes and strategic partnerships that promote financial wellness, professional development, and a healthier work-life balance for lawyers, irrespective of their level of practice.

Under Inclusive and Timely Interventions, Ofoegbunam pledges that no member will be left behind, with welfare initiatives tailored to lawyers across different ages, genders, locations, and years at the Bar, while ensuring prompt intervention, clear communication, and dignity in service.

Her fourth pillar, Data-Driven Welfare, seeks to ensure that welfare policies are informed by direct feedback from members, enabling the Association to develop practical solutions to the real challenges confronting legal practitioners.

Describing the document as only a preview of her broader vision, Ofoegbunam encouraged colleagues to visit the ECNBA Portal to read her full manifesto and detailed policy proposals.

She also appealed for the support of members in the forthcoming election, expressing confidence that, with their mandate, the NBA can build a welfare system that truly serves every lawyer.
