The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Calabar Urges Power Distribution Companies, Consumers to Adhere Strictly to Electricity Protection Regulations.

The Nigerian Bar Association, Calabar Branch ( The Doyen Bar) has called on electricity distribution companies and consumers to strictly comply with established policies and the existing legal framework governing electricity supply and consumption in Nigeria.

The call was made during the Doyen Bar’s Public Enlightenment radio programme, *THE COURT ROOM*, on the 1st March, 2026, at FAD FM, 93.1, Calabar.

Speaking as Guest Speaker on the programme, Daniel Kip, Esq., a National Officer of the Nigerian Bar Association and member of the Doyen Bar, emphasized the need for electricity distribution companies to ensure that all their actions and engagements with consumers conform strictly with the provisions of the Electricity Consumer Protection Regulations, 2023.

He stressed that compliance with the regulatory framework would not only protect consumers’ rights but also promote transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery within the power sector.

Kip further advised electricity consumers to remain law-abiding and to utilize the Electricity Consumers Complaints Unit as the first point of call in resolving disputes and addressing service-related grievances.

According to him, embracing lawful complaint mechanisms would foster a more structured and effective dispute resolution process while safeguarding consumers’ rights.

Meanwhile, the Doyen Bar Chairman, Enome Amatey, Esq more so, reiterated the Doyen Bar commitment to public enlightenment on legal issues affecting citizens and institutions, urging stakeholders in the electricity sector to operate within the bounds of the law to ensure fairness and mutual accountability.
