The Caliphate Bar, also known as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Sokoto Branch, has continued to distinguish itself as a symbol of tradition, progress, and professional excellence in Northern Nigeria. Under the leadership of Rashidat Muhammad, Esq., the first woman to chair the Branch, the administration has been marked by dynamism, inclusivity, and an unwavering commitment to strengthening the voice of lawyers within the Caliphate and beyond.
On 10th September 2025, the Executive Committee of the NBA Sokoto Branch paid an appreciation call on His Eminence, Alhaji Dr. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, CFR, Mni, President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Chairman of Jamaatul Nasirul Islam, and the Sultan of Sokoto, at his Palace in Sokoto.
The visit commenced with an opening prayer led by Muhammad Adeleke, Esq., invoking blessings for the success of the deliberations and continued guidance for the Sultan and NBA.
Following the prayer, the Branch Chairman, Rashidat Muhammad, Esq., delivered her opening remarks. In her address, she expressed profound appreciation to His Eminence for graciously honouring the NBA with his presence at the recently concluded NBA Annual General Conference 2025 held in Enugu State. She acknowledged the Sultan’s constant support and encouragement towards the activities of the Bar and the legal profession in general.
Furthermore, the Chairman solicited the continuous support of His Eminence as the Branch prepares to launch the 2nd edition of its Bar Journal at the upcoming Law Week. She assured that the exact date of the programme would be duly communicated to the Sultanate Council once it is finalized by the Branch.
In his response, His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed delight over the visit. He remarked that it was equally an honour on his part to have attended the NBA Annual Conference in Enugu, describing the atmosphere of the event as well-organized, inspiring, and encouraging, especially given the large turnout of participants. His Eminence commended the NBA for its commitment and urged the Association to sustain the momentum.
He further assured the Rashidat-led administration of his continuous support, while emphasizing the importance of timely communication of the Branch’s activities and programme dates to enable the Sultanate Council prepare for its participation. He reiterated that his doors are always open for the Caliphate Bar.
The visit was concluded with mutual goodwill, prayers for continued collaboration, and a renewed commitment by both the Sultanate Council and the NBA Sokoto Branch towards strengthening ties and promoting the rule of law, justice, and societal development.
