NBA Citizens Liberties Committee Chair, Nuhu J. Egya, Esq., Celebrated for Transformative Legal Advocacy

The National Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Citizens Liberties Committee, Nuhu J. Egya, Esq., is making waves in the legal and human rights landscape through a career marked by impactful interventions, scholarship, and bar leadership.

An alumnus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, Egya holds an LL.M from the University of Jos, where he is currently pursuing a PhD in Law.

His professional journey spans courtroom litigation, legal education, human rights activism, and leadership within the bar.

As Principal Partner at Egya & Egya Associates and a Lecturer in Humanities and Social Sciences at the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, Egya has spearheaded numerous strategic interventions.

Under his leadership, the Citizens Liberties Committee has facilitated the release of unlawfully detained persons across Nigeria, including eight protesters in Maiduguri, six minors held for over 100 days, and four others connected to the #EndBadGovernance protests.

Working closely with the Nigeria Correctional Service, NGOs, and the judiciary, Egya has advanced access to justice, notably freeing indigent inmates at the Kuje Correctional Centre. His recent high-level consultations with the FCT Commissioner of Police further underline his commitment to fostering mutual respect between the NBA and law enforcement.

A former Chairman of the NBA Keffi Branch (2022–2024) and current National President of the Nasarawa State University Alumni Association, Egya’s influence extends beyond activism.

His academic contributions cover constitutional safeguards, the right to life, and contempt of court.

Honoured by Bingham University’s Liberty Chambers and lauded with other commendations, Egya is a member of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), and a volunteer with Amnesty International.
