The Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), Sokoto Branch, recently paid a courtesy visit to the First Lady of Sokoto State, Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, at the State Government House.

The visit, held amidst warmth and mutual respect, was aimed at formally introducing the Forum, its mission, and activities to the First Lady, as well as soliciting her support towards the realisation of the Forum’s objectives in Sokoto State.

Leading the delegation, the Chairperson of the NBA Women Forum, Sokoto Branch, Aishatu Abdullahi lllo expressed appreciation to the First Lady for graciously receiving the members despite her busy schedule.

She emphasized that the NBA Women Forum is a vital platform committed to the advancement of women in the legal profession, promoting access to justice for women and children, supporting female empowerment initiatives, and fostering leadership among women lawyers across Nigeria.

During the interactive session, the state lead, highlighted some of the key initiatives the Forum has championed, including mentorship programs for young female lawyers, legal awareness campaigns, capacity-building workshops, and active participation in community service projects targeted at supporting women and vulnerable groups.

The First Lady’s Response

In her response, Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, pledged her unflinching support for the Forum’s activities in Sokoto State. She commended the NBA Women Forum for its proactive engagement and underscored the importance of synergy between civil society organizations and the government in advancing the cause of women and children.

She promised to collaborate with the Forum on upcoming programs aimed at promoting gender equality, enhancing legal awareness, and supporting initiatives that strengthen the role of women in governance and community leadership.

The Way Forward

This significant visit marks a new chapter for the NBA Women Forum in Sokoto State. Moving forward, the Forum plans to:

  • Establish a formal partnership with the Office of the First Lady to co-host legal awareness and empowerment initiatives.
  • Launch community outreach projects focusing on women’s rights, education, and health in collaboration with the state government.
  • Set up mentorship clinics pairing experienced female lawyers with young aspiring ones.

Since Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammed assumed office as the National Chairperson of the NBA Women Forum, the Forum has recorded remarkable achievements, including:
