Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, is a renowned Nigerian engineer, administrator, and politician who currently serves as Nigeria’s Minister of Works. Prior to his ministerial appointment, he served as the Governor of Ebonyi State, from 2015 to 2023, and as the Deputy Governor from 2011 to 2015.
As a seasoned engineer, Engr. Umahi has made significant contributions to the construction and infrastructure sector in Nigeria. His expertise spans over two decades, with a focus on road construction, bridge building, and urban development.
Before his foray into politics, Engr. Umahi worked with several engineering firms, including the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and the Federal Ministry of Works. He also served as the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Chapter of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
As Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Umahi prioritized infrastructure development, overseeing numerous projects, including the construction of roads, bridges, and flyovers. His administration invested heavily in urban renewal projects, aimed at transforming the state’s capital, Abakaliki, into a modern city.
Engr. Umahi’s leadership and contributions to the construction and infrastructure sector have earned him numerous awards and recognition, including the Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE). Little wonder President Bola Ahmed Tinubu chose him to oversee the Ministry of Works upon assumption of office as President.
