Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic death of popular local musician, Okezie Mba, also known as Igbo Jah, who was fatally shot at the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad headquarters in Enugu State on October 25, 2024.

According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer for Enugu State, Igbo Jah was departing from the squad’s headquarters around 8:10 p.m. after a visit when he was shot by a police officer under unclear circumstances. The officer responsible has been detained, pending further investigation.

Governor Mbah, in a statement issued on Saturday, described the incident as “unfortunate” and extended his condolences to Igbo Jah’s family. Acknowledging the late musician’s contributions to Igbo culture through Ogene music, he added, “The untimely death of Okezie Mba, popularly known as Igbo Jah, is a huge loss for us as Ndigbo in general and Ndi Enugu in particular.”

He assured the public of a rigorous investigation to guarantee justice for the deceased, his family, and his fans, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to upholding peace and security.
