Nigeria’s Inner Bar will expand on Monday as 68 lawyers formally receive the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria at the Supreme Court, following completion of the mandatory induction programme.
Sixty-eight legal practitioners are scheduled to be formally conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria on Monday, October 12, at the Supreme Court in Abuja.
The successful applicants comprise 67 advocates and one academic.
Their elevation followed approval by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee at its 174th plenary session held on July 23 under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
The ceremony is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the Main Courtroom of the Supreme Court.
According to the LPPC, the rank recognises practitioners who have demonstrated outstanding professional excellence in advocacy or exceptional contribution to legal scholarship.
The conferment also carries broader expectations within the profession, including leadership, mentorship, integrity and the maintenance of high professional standards.
The ceremony comes at a period of active debate within Nigeria’s legal community over professional distinction, ethics, advocacy standards and responsibility at the Inner Bar.
