Social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has refused to submit evidence directly to the Nigeria Police Force over his allegations that some security personnel aid kidnapping and banditry.
According to Channels Television, Otse said he was prepared to respond to the police invitation but would only present his purported evidence if the authorities charged him before a court.
The activist stated his position in a video posted on Instagram on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
VDM Challenges Police to Prosecute Him
VeryDarkMan challenged the police to initiate legal proceedings if they considered his statements unlawful, maintaining that his lawyers were prepared to represent him.
He said he would not disclose the evidence during police questioning but would produce it before a competent court.
“Take me to court,” he insisted.
No criminal charge had been announced against him at the time Channels Television published the report.
Police Demand Evidence
The controversy followed comments VeryDarkMan made during the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt.
He alleged that some officers stationed at highway checkpoints identify travellers perceived to be wealthy and transmit information about their identities and movements to kidnappers.
The Nigeria Police Force rejected the allegations as unsubstantiated and invited the activist to produce evidence supporting them.
In a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu, the police said claims of such seriousness required a corresponding standard of proof.
The Force assured that any credible information submitted would be urgently and thoroughly investigated.
It also maintained that individual officers found to have compromised their responsibilities would face disciplinary measures and prosecution.
Activist Stands by Allegations
VeryDarkMan stood by his broader allegation that personnel of the police, military, immigration and customs services knew about factors sustaining kidnapping, banditry and terrorism.
He questioned why insecurity had persisted despite the substantial funds allocated to security agencies.
The activist did not publicly release documentary or independently verifiable evidence supporting the allegations in the video reported by Channels Television.
His claims therefore remain allegations and have not been established by a court or independent investigation.
VDM Calls for Better Police Welfare
Despite his criticism, VeryDarkMan acknowledged the difficult conditions under which many police officers operate.
He argued that improving the salaries, welfare and general working conditions of police personnel was essential to strengthening national security.
The police, meanwhile, cautioned against making sweeping allegations that could undermine public confidence and demoralise personnel serving under dangerous conditions.
The Force maintained that legitimate criticism could promote accountability but insisted that allegations involving national security institutions should be supported by credible evidence.

I can go to court on that same day. My lawyers are on ground,” he said. It is the military men that benefit from insecurity. That’s why it can never stop,” Otse alleged. He added, “How much is your budget to battle insecurity? How much is your budget?
