In a major breakthrough against transnational crime, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, have arrested and repatriated a Chadian fugitive wanted for murder and alleged narcotics trafficking.
The suspect, Mahadijiria Abdoulaye, a Chadian national, was handed over to authorities in N’Djamena on 14 August 2026 after being apprehended in Kano State following an intelligence-driven operation coordinated by INTERPOL.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, anipr, Abdoulaye was declared wanted by Chadian authorities over the alleged murder of Nazik Mahamat Saleh, who was reportedly tortured and killed on 3 May 2026.
The statement disclosed that the Court of Appeal in N’Djamena issued an international arrest warrant on 22 June 2026 for Abdoulaye and her alleged accomplice, Fatime Senoussi Mouktar, in connection with the homicide investigation.
Police investigations revealed that after the alleged crime, Abdoulaye fled into Nigeria in an attempt to evade prosecution. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja tracked and arrested her on 5 August 2026 at Railway Quarters, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
Following the arrest, Nigerian authorities worked closely with INTERPOL NCB N’Djamena to complete the necessary extradition procedures. The suspect was subsequently repatriated to Chad through Lomé, Togo, under established bilateral policing arrangements to face criminal prosecution.
Commending the successful operation, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, praised the professionalism, diligence and operational efficiency displayed by INTERPOL NCB Abuja.
According to the Inspector-General, the operation demonstrates the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to ensure that criminals cannot escape justice simply by crossing international borders.
He further reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with international law enforcement agencies through INTERPOL to combat transnational organised crime, dismantle cross-border criminal networks and deny fugitives safe haven within Nigeria.
The successful arrest and repatriation underscore the growing effectiveness of international police cooperation in the fight against cross-border crime and reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to global efforts aimed at ensuring that perpetrators of serious offences are brought before the law.
