NBA DUTSE BRANCH: Chairman Garba Hamza Umaru, Esq. Calls for Sustained Fidelity to Rule of Law on Nigeria’s 65th Anniversary

DUTSE, JIGAWA STATE – October 1, 2025 – The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dutse Branch, today joined the Federal Republic of Nigeria in commemorating its 65th Independence Anniversary.

In a potent message released to the public, the Branch Chairman, Garba Hamza Umaru, Esq., used the occasion for a profound national reflection, urging all citizens and government officials to uphold the democratic ideals upon which the nation was founded.

A Look at Yesterday: The Promise of Sovereignty

Reflecting on the nation’s foundational journey, Mr. Garba Hamza Umaru, Esq., paid tribute to the heroes who secured Nigeria’s freedom in 1960. “Sixty-five years ago, the flag of independence was hoisted, signifying the birth of a nation built on the promise of justice, unity, and fundamental human rights,” the Chairman stated.

“That noble heritage, forged through the sacrifices of our forebears, laid a solid constitutional framework intended to guarantee liberty and the rule of law for all. We must never allow the promise of that day, the promise of a truly democratic and prosperous Nigeria, to fade from our collective memory.”

Addressing Today: Resilience in the Face of Imperatives

Addressing the current state of the nation, the chairman acknowledged the formidable challenges facing the country’s democratic evolution, including economic turbulence, issues of security, and the imperative for deepening institutional integrity. “Nigeria of today is defined by the extraordinary resilience of its people.

We recognize that our democratic journey is ongoing, and while we have made significant strides, the foundations of the rule of law are constantly tested. It is incumbent upon the Bar to remain the unwavering defender of the judiciary, demanding accountability, transparency, and strict adherence to constitutional provisions from all tiers of government.”

Charting the Way Forward: The Collective Resolve

Looking ahead, Mr Garba Hamza Umaru, Esq., detailed the roadmap for the future, emphasising that the attainment of a greater Nigeria requires a collective, non-partisan commitment. “The way forward demands a renewed patriotism anchored on meritocracy and justice.

The NBA Dutse Branch pledges its full commitment to championing electoral reforms, protecting judicial independence, and providing legal assistance to safeguard the rights of the common person,” he asserted.

“It is time for all hands to be truly on deck: the judiciary, the executive, the legislature, civil society, and every Nigerian, to consolidate our gains, confront our imperfections with courage, and build an equitable and peaceful society for the coming generations. Let us embrace this anniversary not just as a day of celebration but as a day of solemn rededication to our shared national destiny.”

The NBA Dutse Branch wished all Nigerians a meaningful and purposeful Independence Anniversary.
