Homicide: Court of Appeal Upholds Alhassan Ado Doguwa’s Clearance of Homicide Charges

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the dismissal of Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a member of the House of Representatives, in a case involving allegations of culpable homicide. This decision aligns with a prior ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, where Justice Donatus Okorowo declared that the charges against Doguwa violated his fundamental human rights. The court also issued an injunction preventing the Kano State Government from arresting, detaining, or prosecuting the lawmaker and awarded him damages of N25 million.

Doguwa, who serves the Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency of Kano State, had previously argued that the charges related to violence during the 2023 general elections were federal offences, which were investigated and dismissed by both the Kano High Court and the police.

I urge my people, especially at the constituency level, to celebrate this victory by thanking Allah, SWT, and avoid a breach of law and order. I have also accepted all that happened during this judicial tussle as an act of God, viewing it as an opportunity to prepare me for more significant leadership challenges ahead.”

This ruling marks a significant development in Doguwa’s legal battle, effectively ending the proceedings against him and allowing him to continue his legislative duties without further legal obstacles.
